M: Well, all right. I can spare that, I suppose.
W: Thank you. Do you like reading books?
M: Yes, I do. As you can see, I've just bought some books.
W: Would you describe yourself as a book addict?
M: A book addict? No. You wouldn't call people who read two books a week a book addict. I'm just a book lover. But my father is different. He reads a book or more every day.
W: You and your father love reading books, I see. Oh, do you write book reviews?
M: Oh, we've never done that.

M: Hi, Kathy. I haven't heard from you for a while. So what have you been busy with recently?
W: I've been busy with my new business these days. I started a gym with some friends this month. Now we need one more gym teacher to teach Latin dance. I remember that you are good at it. Would you like to have a try?
M: I'd like to, but I can't. I'm teaching at another gym now. I can't spare any time for another part-time job.
W: Well, then do you know anyone who might be interested?
M: You can call my friend James. He might be interested.
W: OK. But could you tell me something more about him, please?
M: Sure. He's just 23 years old. He won first prize in a national Latin dance competition earlier this year. And now he's looking for another part-time job.
W: Great. What's his telephone number?
M: I don't remember it. I'll find it for you. Just a moment, please.

Text 10
M: On New Year's Eve, there is a common song that millions of English-speaking people sing and hear. It is called
Auld Lang Syne
. It is the traditional music played mainly in the United States during the New Year's celebration. Auld Lang Syne is an old Scottish poem. It tells the need to remember old friends. The words "auld lang syne" mean "old long since". No one knows who wrote the poem first. The version by Scottish poet Robert Burns was published in 1796. The words and music we know today first appeared in a songbook three years later. The version we are hearing today is by the Washington Saxophone Quartet. As we end our program with Auld Lang Syne, I would like to wish all of our radio friends a very Happy New Year! This is Thomson Smith.
