W: Good evening. Can I help you?
M: Good evening. Could you let us have a double room?

W: Do you have any plans for the summer, Jim?
M: Yeah. I’ll be visiting some historic buildings in Europe in late July.
W: Really? What for?
M: Our history professor said it is beneficial for us to know more about historic buildings. So I want to visit those in Europe one by one.
W: What are you going to do while you are there?
M: Well, I will take photos and then find more information about them online at night.
W: But it will cost too much for you to do that.
M: My parents have decided to support me, and my mother will accompany me all the way.

M: How do you like your job here, Linda?
W: It’s interesting. I like being an editor.
M: Why?
W: I like talking to writers. I come across a lot of interesting and outstanding people in the industry.
M: I’m happy to hear that, but publishing is more than just talking to writers. It involves a lot of work and responsibility. The work is actually boring.
W: I don’t feel bored at all. I’m getting along with my colleagues and I’m learning new things almost every day.
M: Do you have any complaints?
W: No, I have no complaints. I hear there are many opportunities to be moved up in this company. Is that true?
M: Yes, you have many opportunities to be promoted in this company as long as you do well.
W: That’s perfect. I’ll try my best.

W: Hey, coach.
M: Well, welcome back. By the way, how did your brother’s wedding go?
W: Oh, it was wonderful. And the whole family was there.
M: So it was worth the trip.
W: Yes. I’m sorry I had to miss practice, though. I feel bad about that.
M: Never mind. Family is the most important after all. Just a minute, please. There are several other things I need to tell you. First, everybody’s getting a new team jacket.
W: Wow. How did that happen?
M: A woman who played here about 25 years ago came to our school last week, and said she wanted to do something for the team, so she bought us new jackets.
W: It’s really nice of her.
M: Yes, it is. It’s great that former players still care so much about our school and our basketball program.
W: What should I do to get the new jacket?
M: Just fill out a form. I’ll give it to you now, and you can bring it back this afternoon.
W: OK.

M: There are many interesting stories about how a baby learns to say its first word. Now I’d like to share my story with you. I was about 18 months old, I think,
and I had just started to say my first word. Every time a truck went by, I would shout a word that sounded like "track", but to everyone else, it sounded nothing like it. My parents tried to correct me, but failed. Then, about three months later, we traveled to New York. As we were waiting for our plane at the airport, I looked out of a huge window. At that moment I saw the largest truck in the world, and I thought I had to tell someone about this. I turned to my father and screamed "Track! Track!" My father was standing next to about a thousand people so he tried hard to shut me up, but I was so excited, and I kept screaming my special word. My poor mother was so embarrassed that she quickly ran into the ladies room where she hid until I finally stopped. Well, I learned how to say "truck" correctly, and soon I was talking like a normal child. However, my parents will never forget the very first word I said in my life.
